PRECIPICE

January 2019 - April 2019

Role: Game Designer

Platform: Escape Room

Venue: Theater Black box

Team Size: 10

Duration: 3 months

Release: April 2019

While I was attending NYU Tisch's Playwrights Horizons Theater School,   our spring festival consisted of a variety of experimental theatrical shows, and I was approached to design puzzles and gameplay for an escape room experience that would be showcased.

I worked with the cast and crew to adapt a story that featured characters with severe amnesia. The director's goal was to use the escape room experience as a tool for empathy, and I created 5 unique puzzles that emulated the feeling of having amnesia when solved. In addition, I collaborated with the set design team and the cast to include clues in the players' environment and the characters they interacted with.

Experience Overview

Based on true stories from Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks and additional material from Forever Today: A Memoir Of Love And Amnesia by Deborah Wearing, Precipice thrusts the audience into the minds of people experiencing retrograde amnesia.

Split into two different groups, players have to race against to clock to solve puzzles, look for clues around their environment, and retrieve the memories of the esteemed conductor, Clive Wearing, before they are lost to oblivion...
