Tender Capitulation is a cinematic scene built in Unreal Engine 5 that imagines alien flora softly taking over an isolated planet.

I developed the world premise, directed the environmental storytelling, and built the sequence in-engine to explore tension, transformation, and the uncanny.

Experience Overview

Tender Capitulation is a worldbuilding exercise inspired by Annihilation and The Blair Witch Project. The player follows the final moments of a cameraperson documenting an alien outbreak as strange, bioluminescent weeds erupt from the earth.

Through flickering light and creeping growth, the scene explores the fear and wonder of witnessing the unknown.

Roles and responsibilities

Narrative Design:

  • Built a cinematic found footage sequence in Unreal Engine 5.

  • Designed and dressed the environment to convey a post-human alien outbreak.

  • Animated alien plant growth using Sequencer and Blueprint timelines.

  • Directed lighting, sound, and camera movement to enhance tension and immersion.

  • Integrated environmental storytelling elements to support the narrative arc.
